FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What do the menu bar colors mean?
For activity meters such as CPU, Memory, GPU, Network, and Disk, color represents the current level of activity, not the type of metric. Colors change continuously from white through blue, green, yellow, and pink toward red. Red does not necessarily mean something is wrong. System Health evaluates health separately from activity color. PCC and Thermal status colors also have meanings distinct from activity.
Does high CPU or Memory usage mean my Mac has a problem?
Not necessarily. High usage may simply mean that your Mac is doing more work at that moment. SBM separates current activity from its System Health assessment.
Why are some processes not shown?
SBM operates within macOS security protections and the App Sandbox. Some system processes and processes belonging to other users cannot be measured by SBM. SBM does not bypass macOS protections to access them.
Why doesn’t Thermal show an exact temperature in °C?
SBM uses public APIs suitable for Mac App Store distribution. It displays the Thermal State provided by macOS and does not use private sensor APIs to obtain exact CPU temperatures.
Why isn't fan speed available?
Fan information may not be available depending on the Mac and the information exposed by macOS. Some Macs, including fanless models, do not have a cooling fan. SBM does not control fans.
What is PCC?
PCC refers to Apple Private Cloud Compute availability used by SBM's Ask features. Availability can depend on your Mac, OS, region, and Apple service availability. SBM shows when the feature is unavailable.
What does “Ask about this” do?
It asks for an explanation of information currently observed by SBM. AI explains facts measured by SBM. It does not control your Mac, terminate processes, or change system settings.
What can I try during the Preview?
Before purchasing, you can try 10 Glass sessions and 3 Detail sessions. The Preview ends when either limit is reached. During the Preview, you can use the features available within Glass and Detail, including History, Advanced information, System Health, and Ask. The menu bar remains available after the Preview ends. A session already open when a limit is reached remains available. Unlock is required the next time you start a new Glass or Detail session.
What is SBM Unlock?
SBM Unlock is a one-time purchase that unlocks continued access to Glass and Detail. It is not a subscription. After purchase, the Preview session limits for those features are removed.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings > General > Unlock in SBM and select “Restore Purchases.” Your purchase entitlement is checked through the App Store.
Does SBM require an internet connection?
Core system monitoring, the menu bar, Glass, and Detail operate on your Mac. Some features, including Ask, may depend on PCC availability and network conditions.
Does SBM make my Mac faster?
No. SBM helps you observe and understand what your Mac is doing. It does not force-quit apps, free memory, or perform system optimization.
